Karim Rashid

Karim Rashid was born in Cairo, Egypt, raised in England and Canada, studied and worked in Italy and the U.S.  Karim Rashid Design 's are on permanent display at major museums in New York, San Francisco, Montreal, London, Chicago and Tokyo. In 1998, Karim Rashid was awarded his second "Young Designer of the Year Award" by the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and in May, 1999 he received the George Nelson award which cited Rashid as "one of the ten most innovative furniture designers working today."

Karim Rashid Design 's are self described as "sensual minimalism" and it is quite obvious in his designs like the Karim Rashid sofa and others that have smooth curves and supple shapes that portray pure elegance. Karim Rashid has designed many products for companies all over the world and is recognized at the design forefront of his generation.  As a true pioneer of unique design and home decor, Karim Rashid is one of the best.  Concerning his designs, he said, "I want industrial design to be a public subject. I want people to love objects the way they love clothing."

Karim Rashid extends his abilities to several disciplines of design with ubiquitous objects, furniture, clothes and lighting, and most noteably the Karim Rashid sofas. His projects range from designing a new flagship store for Giorgio Armani and winning a competition to create a new manhole cover for the sewers of New York.
