Description:
The cloud lamp was designed for Vitra by Frank Gehry. Frank Gehry discovered the inspiration for the cloud lamp by packing paper cups and stapling them together. His unique design is very much like his wordly architecture - very unique! To transform the shade from a found-object construct to a prototype for mass production, Gehry developed a “skin” made of polyester that feels and looks like fiber and is flexible, tear-resistant, easy to clean and fire-retardant. This whimsical puff of a shade can morph in the user’s hands, becoming a very round cumulus or a flatter stratus shape. You shape to your liking.
Each sheet of the cloud lamp buttons to its neighbors with a simple snap and is available in three different volumes based on groups of 5 (cloud 30), 7 (cloud 32) or 10 panels (cloud 34). A transparent polycarbonate ring is inserted into each lampshade from which hangs a single light bulb.
